What is Microsoft So.cl?
So.cl is a research project developed by Microsoft mainly for learning purposes by exploring social search possibilities. So.cl is a combination of social networking and search which enables user to find and share webpages. It also helps you create post, and to encourage interaction and collaboration which provides rich media sharing, and real time sharing of videos.
With this new application from Microsoft, it encourage users to continue using other social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked, and others alike, as well as Google and other search tools for communication purposes.
How does So.cl work?
So.cl search is powered by Bing for the display of search result contents. It allows users to work together at the same content – contents can either be webpages, images, videos, music, as they can view the same web content virtually. With this application, it definitely makes life more comfortable.
It also offers “VIDEO PARTY” feature – allows users to search, and quickly assemble a list of movies to view together with your friends. You can also watch videos created by other users or you can create your own video and share it with other users, and you can keep it private, anyway, you’ll decide the accessibility of the content. You can also chat with other So.cl users. You can also share your search with other users, and allows users to comment. The nice thing about So.cl is that it helps users find the topic of their interest with just a one click. Moreover, you can connect, and interact with users that have similar interest with you, thus, keeping the conversation at the same tract.
Why is there a need for one more Social Networking?
Well, for the sake of user’s preference, maybe, this is where So.cl fits in. users find new ways to keep in touch with friends via social networking. To think of it, it’s really not for the need, rather, it’s just a user preference on how to keep in touch with friends and acquaintances, and perhaps, find a new friend.
How is So.cl compared with other Social Networking such as Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook?
Though some features are basically similar as Google+, Twitter, Linked, and Facebook, it more likely to give users the best realistic experience. In short, its web content was improved.
But then again, as mentioned, everything depends on the users’ preference. Some may find it perfectly fitted for their needs and wants, while other find it just the same and there’s no point of using another social network technology that even complicate things more.
Though So.cl offers a lot of great features – some are derivations from other Social Network, and some are really fresh, it also presents some disadvantages. In So.cl, users can not upload photos as of the moment, but it was reported that in time, photo uploading option will be available.
In the end, whatever you choose to use will be your own discretion, after all, you’ll you’re the one who knows what’s best for you, and what not.

I heard about this new Social media from Microsoft a couple of days but am not sure what to think about it. My first thought was that it is too late for Microsoft to start another Social Media. Maybe they are starting this one to boost Bing that still are struggling to get success, but I think that it is hard to compete with Facebook and Twitter and if Google are not able to do it there is no way that Microsoft can. Well that was just my opinion about it

Nothing is late in technology. you never know which functionality is going to win heart of users. Look at pinterest… late starters, but gaining popularity.
Glad to see that Microsoft is playing in this space, but I hardly reckon its position in this social race..

So.cl is truly a good tool. I think it will help people to find their desired webpage and if they found useful can share for others use.

It has now become a trend for big technology giants to step into social networking market…..All are just copying each other…variations can be seen in their short domain names of “.me” and other ones…
It’s just a publicity stunt and attracting some lost traffic and media hunters towards them…
Do we really need another social network? I agree that it might be useful as a student network where the can help each other and share the necessary materials. But in the end it will be just another regular social network. Look at Google+. It was launched pretty ling ago but still it lags behind FB, Twitter and others. So personally I don’t see any bright future for So.cl.
Its a nice networking site But there is no such site which can stand infront of Facebook.
If in case it is a new social network, I don’t think it can compete with Facebook and Twitter. After Google Plus, It is even more hard. But, if it is exclusively for students, I think it will work wonders.
I have not heard much about so.cl though the site looks good Microsoft never promoted it on large scale. I would be great to see a social networking site from Microsoft as well. As you know MS is a key player in online market.
I think this can fight against face book and twitter, let’s look forward to good stuffs from it. But I have a question do we need another social network?
I doubt this is going to be successful. Not much people use microsoft services anymore
