Huawei U8850 Vision is a smartphone with the Android Gingerbread operating system and a 3.7-inch capacitive screen, housed in an aluminum body format. Huawei chosen design for the aluminum housing borrows some features from the HTC product line and the curved screen is made of mineral glass, which resembles of famous Android smartphone models like Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The achieved combination is surprisingly successful and well integrated. True, the housing finish is not as fine as we have seen in some competing products, but for its price is more than satisfying.
The 8850 Vision is hiding under the hood a Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset, a 1 GHz single-core processor, respectively an Adreno 250 GPU. Configuration includes 512 MB RAM, 2 GB ROM and 1 GB of storage, expandable by attaching a microSD memory card. The 3.7 inch diagonal screen is based on a matrix TFT LCD with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which can present images using a palette of 256,000 colors. Above the screen we find a VGA front camera and a proximity sensor. On the side we have a volume slider with chrome finish, which also is the zoom mode. The top of the housing hides the Lock button and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, while the bottom houses the microUSB connector and microphone sensor. On the back side we find the 5 megapixel camera with a slightly raised profile, LED flash and external speaker.
The unibody enclosure format includes only a small cap that covers the bottom of the phone, where are inserted the microSD card and SIM. The 1400 mAh capacity Li-Ion battery isn’t accessible to the user and requires removing the housing for replacement. Huawei U8850 Vision offers 3G HSDPA (14.4 Mbps) and network access Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n, Bluetooth 2.1, for connecting various accessories and peripherals.
The operating system is delivered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, bundled with SPB Shell 3D interface Android launcher, designed to give your phone a modern look while improving the operating system’s core functionality.
In the initial setup of the phone we can choose between classic Gingerbread Android interface and the Huawei customized version, equipped with 3D visualization application screens. While the functionality they provide is well above the traditional Android interface, the visual effects are successful in terms of aesthetic and induce a breath of fresh to the operating system.
Although sufficient for occasional photos, the camera is still a weak point for this phone. The 5 MP Image Sensor resolution gives good results only in the presence of sunlight and shade exposure and color images reproduced are not always ideal. The 720p resolution recording mode does not excel in terms of clarity and level of detail, but the results are satisfactory.
Huawei U8850 Vision is noted by an attractive and competitive price, is a good compromise for those who want to be part of an experience as close to the level of a premium smartphone, but do not have the necessary budget.
